Yeah, pretty hopeless. I considered that WiFi board exchange also but actually the broken Boom board does work without the WiFi card. It will then repeatedly show -Wireless card not installed- instead or alternating with -MAC not set-. The behavior is the same otherwise, i.e. the problem exists without the WiFi board so I don't have much hope that a different one will fix it. I still suspect the CPU, the Flash memory, or even the SDRAM, as the actual root cause. I would so love to get any sort of specification or service manual. However, that seems to be one of Logitech's best-kept secret. Even though they discontinued the entire series by now and do not offer service any longer. I think it would not harm them if they made the internal information public by now. It is funny that their Squeezebox Server was open source all the time whereas the Squeezebox hardware is largely undocumented (or at least secret) and virtually black boxes. Well, I will let you all know about my findings and progress but don't be surprised if the next post comes only in a few weeks from now.
