Hi Nicole; I find the BN very easy to understand. The problem is learning all the steps to make the computer and BN work together. I have a Braille Mate and never got anywhere with it. The BN is logical and easy to understand. I am sure I will love 7.0 even more than my 5.1 that I have now. I will never give it up. My BN is my escape from jumbo print and almost total usage of braille and speach. Terry Powers

I get tired of switching to line reading mode every time I create a new file and I always use the same network configuration. Also, I used windows before using Keysoft. However, I like Keysoft better. It is simpler, that's about all I can say. I don't know how to explain it, but it just seems to come more naturally than windows. Also, I always know what my BN is doing. When something goes wrong in windows, it's so hard to figure out what's wrong, and that's always when JAWS decides not to work. I would like to always see a list of all files in a folder. I would like to be able to set this as my default. Certainly it shouldn't be everyone's default, but I would simply like to have that option. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Richard Ring Sent: Monday, December 19, 2005 2:50 PM To: Braillenote List Subject: RE: [Braillenote] keysoft or windows Frankly, the main change I would like to see is the ability to open files from within the "file manager" and I would like to see a cut down on some of the repetitive messaging. For example, if I wish to visit a web site, each and every time I wish to visit a site, I will be asked which configuration I wish to use in order to connect, even if I only have one such configuration created. I think the real problem I have with File Manager is that rather than allowing the user to simply scroll through a file list and make any changes he/she might like to make, the only thing you can do while in that list is to check the size and the last modified date of a file. I would like to be able to delete, copy, rename, move etc right from that initial list of files. Insofar as being intuitive, I would say that the Braillenote is easy to teach because it is extremely consistent and all actions are menu driven. I wouldn't change that, I just want a file manager that doesn't require me to go to a menu each and every time I want to take an action on a file. I am probably making things too Windows-like for the rest of the folks on this list, so I'll never get my wish (smile) That's ok, you can't always get want you want But if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Monday, December 19, 2005 2:22 PM To: Braillenote List Subject: [Braillenote] keysoft or windows Hi folks, There has been a thread under the topic of suggestions for keysoft. Some people have expressed a desire that the interface look more like windows, while others are seriously opposed to such changes. I have never owned a braille note, although I'd like to get a voice note and gps. I understand that back when the note family was introduced, not many blind people were familiar with Windows. Most of us dos users did not go quietly into the Windows world, and the learning curve was steep for ost, myself definitely among them. Its been said that the keysoft interface is intuitive flr blind people. My sense is that peoples' reactions to this whole notion of changing the interface has to do with what we are familiar with and what is intuitive for us because of familiarity. It strikes me that not being able to open files from the file manager is certainly not intuitive. Would those of you who don't want the Windows interface agree? As a non-user of the Note family of products, and as one who is fairly familiar with Windows, I admit that I find the idea of learning a nonstandard proprietary interface, which I won't be able to use anywhere else somewhat off putting. and please, nobody suggest that people who want windows should buy the compeditive products, which may have other serious shortcomings. For those of you who like the present interface, what would you say are advantages over Windows? Lack of multitasking is a disadvantage, as is not being able to open files from within the manager. Context sensitive help is good, but its not interface dependent. You can have that sort of help regardless of interface. So, what's good about the keysoft interface that you don't feel is present or is not efficient in a more Windows-like interface?
