Evidently this is a little documented process. I found out on the internet
at various sites how to get connected.
One person said they had chatted with a person on the Cingular web site who
had given them the correct info. Another poster on a site was a Cingular
employee and admitted that most Cingular employees are clewless when it
comes to connecting a PDA to a cell phone and getting on line.

This isn't just an issue with the BN, though I shy away from disclosing that
I am using a BN because most people automatically say "I don't know" when
they see adaptive equipment.
I refer to my BN as a PDA and take down as much info as I can get. Then
later I figure out how it relates to my BN.

I'm happy to help any one who needs help getting connected through a cell
phone via Cingular.

Rusty

Yes, could you forward the message to me? I found out from another Cingular
user that you have to enter *99# into the phone number field, but Cingular
itself had no clue.

Sarah,
That is one of the things Cingular was giving confused information. As I
reclal we were using the earthlink dial-up number, because Cingular didn't
giveu s a different one. (I stilol have the Message Les sent and can
forward it to you, if that makes it any clearer?) KC

Hi KC,

I think I got my phone up and running with the BN right after you canceled
your service. I don't know how much you remember from the setup process,
but, by chance, do you know what phone number you typed into the BN's phone
number field in the new connection configuration? If it was the number for
Earthlink, that might have been your problem. The number has to be *99# for
Cingular. I don't blame you at all for not wanting to deal with Cingular,
they seem to run at the first mention of the BN or anything else that has to
do with access technology. I just got the phone and set up the plan through
Cingular, then got help from people on this list with setting up the rest.
Now that I'm more familiar with how these things work, I'd be happy to work
with you privately, if you want to try again. I love being able to go
online anywhere with the BN, without having to be connected to a network.

Sarah C

Sarah et al,

When my son was here at Xmas, on leave from the Navy, we went to Cingular
and I bought a Nokia 6682 cellphone. Les had, very graciously, sent
directions on setting it up, using that Phone as a modem and I paid for the
data service.
The M-Power recognized the phone., but we could not get it to work, even
after doing the set-up in Connectivity.
Basically, the folks at these dealers know nothing and had both Paul and I
confused. Suffice it to say, it was too expensive to mess with on my own,
after Paul went back to Norf9olk. The phone was returned and the service
cancelled. I don't feel confident to go to Cingular, or anywhere else,
unless I really understand what I need and how to establish a working
cellphone line.
(Perhaps we can communicate on this subject privately, because, if all goes
well here, I'll be traveling this Summer and want to do my E-Mail and other
activities on the BN.)
