Thanks, Joseph, for this info, which makes a lot of sense. I too have a
Toshiba laptop with SpeedStep. When I have time I'll try the tests you
suggested in your message entitled "My hypothesis on battery issue on mPower".

Nicky,
This is Joseph. The batery issue cometimes pops up on the list. Here is the
technical information on PXA 272 processor, which is used on BN mPower:
The speed is about 416 Megahertz. Andrew Riden wrote to me once that it
might go up to 500 Megahertz. Thi is because Intel Xscale line that is used
on the mPower has a feature called Wireless SpeedStep. SpeedStep is a
technology used by some Intel Pentium 4 processor that allows the operating
system to clock, or change the speed of the processor based on the load to
save power (or if the OS demands it). Wireless SpeedStep works similar with
the regular SpeedStep. If you were solely editing a document, the operating
system will keep the processor at 400 Megahertz. If you were browsing the
wweb or if you were listening to the media file or a stream, the processor's
speed will increase (thus more battery power is required). The expected
battery life of an mPower is about 15 hours, but it might drop to about 8 to
10 hours depending on what you are doing. I hope this informaiton may help
you.

Hi list,

I haven't sent a message to the list for ages, but I'm still here, submerged
under a huge pile of messages. I just had to tell you that I received my
new mPower yesterday and I'm thrilled with it! I've owned a Classic for
almost three years, so I don't think the learning curve will be too steep,
but I may well have some questions - watch this space!

I connected to my wireless network with no problems and I love the audio
streaming feature. All my accessories are working perfectly, i.e. a
Transcend 1 gb cf card, a Sandisk 128 mb wifi card and a Sandisk 1 gb USB
thumb drive.

My only slight query regards the battery. Oh no, I hear you cry, not again!
I charged it up for around 4 hours yesterday and left it alone, which was
hard! This morning I did a lot of audio streaming and I had 36% remaining.
Ten minutes later it died, without a "battery is critical" message. I had
been using it quite heavily and I wasn't so concerned about the battery
running down, it's just that it was so unpredictable (now you hear it, now
you don't). I'll keep an eye on the battery and see how it goes. It may
well settle down with use. I think it's a fantastic product and I'm so glad
I finally took the plunge.

Nicky
