Hello Chaman: Similar to your grocery stores checkout lane, A handheld barcode scanner reads the UPC (Universal Packaging Code) symbols which are on the sides of most commercial items now and references them to a database. Based on that reference, the computer can tell you that the food or store bought item is a box of shredded wheat or two percent milk or whatever your scanning. You can take that a step further by scanning medication barcodes to tell you what that medication is and by adding a few text fields perhaps instructions on how to take it.
You can even make your own bar codes utilizing Microsoft Office to label your CD's or tapes or books or whatever. Currently, there IS NOT a software/hardware add-on like this for the BrailleNote family. You can buy a whole separate device to do this, but it is quite expensive and not in any way yet related to the BrailleNote or Humanware. I think what everyone is hoping here is that Humanware might consider adding such a third party package like this to there product line much the same way they've done with the GPS from Sendero Group. hth Jeff [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ To leave the BrailleNote list, send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To view the list archives or change your preferences, visit http://list.humanware.com/mailman/listinfo/braillenote
