Your theory isn't true for me. I learned the brailler first, and I do
prefer it to the slate, but I prefer to use a QT keyboard. Why? Because I
like the QT commands better. I never liked holding down the space bar and
pressing another key at the same time. I also prefer text to braille
translation instead of braille to text because errors can crop up in back
translation. I am also comfortable using 6-key entry because I must write
in braille when I'm writing music so I have the best of both worlds using
the QT.

: Hi Sarah and Others;
: I did not even notice the qt in the title line. I put the part about bt
: preference because I learned to write Braille before I learned to type.
: Almost always, a person is best at what he learns first. That is why I
: am best at the brailler verses the slate and better at the brailler than
: the typewriter.

: Hi Terry,
:
: I'm curious about your statement, "That is why I love the BT over the
: QT." Were you still talking about length of Braille display line? The
: QT, as well as the BT, comes in both 18 and 32 cell flavors. The rest
: of the message makes sense, just not the part about the QT versus the
: BT. Thanks for clarifying.

: Vicky;
: I think of a 32 cell display as about half a line. How can you read
: such a small field and still find your place. I can not imagine using
: such a small field. I guess it is because I use a Braille display at
: work. It shows almost a full line. This reminds me of the days when we
: only had a 1 cell display. I think it was the versa Braille.
: Like someone said earlier, I guess it is what ever you learn first.
: That is why I love the BT over the QT.

: Hi Jenny and All,
:
: I am fortunate enough to be working and have both an mPower 32 cell BT
: model, as well as a BNPK with the 18 cell display. And, although I do
: use
: both, for portability purposes, I find myself mostly using my PK when
: going
: to and from work. For, it is just the right size for me to use on the
: bus,
: and the lighter weight makes it much easier to be carried around.
:
: Now, I know you weren't asking about the PK, but an mPower QT model.
: But,
: my point here is that, in my opinion, as well as that of others, guess
: it
: kind of comes down to your budget and personal preference and maybe just
: what you get used to using.  I have no problems using my 18 cell unit;
: and,
: in fact, when I do go back to using my mPower from time to time, then I
: kind
: of have to take a few minutes and adjust back to using the larger
: display.
: And, grin, had I started using the mPower before the PK, who knows what
: my
: thoughts may have been, although I really do love the portability of the
: PK.
:
: Good luck with your choice. I know I really do enjoy having both of my
: units.

: Jenny,
: I personally have a BrailleNote mPower BT with 18 cell display. If you
: need
: to read something quickly, 18 is preferable. If you are going to read
: for
: pleasure or proofreading, then I would recommend 32. An advantage that
: 18
: cell users have is that if you want it, you can upgrade from an 18 cell
: to
: 32 cell unit with the fraction of a cost of buying a new unit.
: Personally,
: 18 is fine for me.

: Hi Listers
:
: I'm thinking about buying a Braillenote QT 18 cell or 32 celll, next
: year. I
: don't want to read books in braille. But I do want to use it to
: proofread
: documents, such as minutes etc. I also want to use it for public
: speaking.
: Just to look at my notes, not read a whole presentation.
:
: So what I want to know is, how those of you who have braille displays,
: manage with either an 18 cell or a 32 cell.
:
: Thank you in anticipation.
