Hi again Kathy,

I forgot to say that you might point out to your husband that, if they meant for the router to be turned off most of the time, they'd have put a switch for that purpose! I haven't got one on mine. You just have to unplug it if you need to turn it off, perhaps for a reset when it's being cranky!

Again, HTH,

Rachael

Hi Kathy,

For what it's worth, our router is always on. Always! HTH,

Rachael

Malaina, thanks for the explanation. As I just told Cindy, he
did use the CD in his laptop, and all is working correctly. We
are now both wireless.
I'm curious, do you leave the router on all day and all night?
I'd like instant access whenever with my mPower, but he wants it
off most of the time, which was not quite my idea of how it would
work.
Thanks. Kathy

I think the only time yu will want to use the cd is if your
computer is also wireless. I have a router and I didn't use the
cd because my laptop is not wireless. Only my braille note is
wireless. I think you only need the cd if you want both to be
wireless.

If you don't use the cd, you will need to open the web browser on
his
computer and configure the router manually. I would recommend
using the
cd on his computer. Why do you not want to use it?

Cindy

I know that some of you use the Linksys WRT 54 router for
wireless connectivity.
My husband insists that a CD which comes with the router must be
installed into his laptop before I can have wireless by way of
the router and my Ambicom card on the BN mPower.
I've also been told that no software need be installed, just
plug
the router into the modem (which is switched to bridge for both
DSL and wireless) and I should have wireless.
I would be interested in people's experiences.
Richard, how did you connect your Linksys?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Kathy who loves wireless when out camping!
