Hi Janel:
Is your BrailleNote the classic type? If yes, be prepared to pay close to
$87 plus labor charges for the battery replacement. Also, be sure you KNOW
A LOT ABOUT THE SALES TAX in your state, else you may be TAXED wrongly.
How do I know that? Mine, the classic, is in the clinic. Humanware wanted
to charge me a sales tax of 8.45% on top of the repairs. It turned out that
they were charging me the sales tax for Westminster City located in both
Adams and Jefferson counties here in Denver metorpolitan area. Their
Colorado rep, in the meantime, DOES NOT EVEN live in Denver County, but
rather in Broomfield County.
I protested that I WOULD NOT PAY SALES TAX that HAS NO BEARING on Denver
County and that the city tax being used DID NOT APPLY TO ME who lives in
Denver city and county.
After a PROLONGED FIGHT, I made it ABSOLUTELY CLEAR that I only OWED THEM
Colorado State Sales Tax and NO CITY tax since THEY DO NOT HAVE a rep in
Denver County precinct.
But if your counselor is willing to have it repaired for you, then you need
not worry about any out-of-pocket expenses, and government generally DOES
NOT PAY its own tax. So, check with your counselor and see what he or she
says!!
Sincerely,
Olusegun
