Hello Nikki,
First: Pleas Don't worry over much about all of the talk you hear about braille on this list!
Second: I understand about reading braille!
I began reading it when I was six years old.
I am twenty-three years old now.
I will be twenty-four next April.
Because Of my carpal tunnel syndrome I can not read braille right now but I have the knowledge of it. Most of the people or I should say all of the people on this list who have talked about all of the changes braille has undergone are absolutely correct!
I have read in braille as a matter of fact about all of these changes.
Put it this way Helen Keller if she were alive today would have to learn braille again because it's changed so much! I do not think that tomorrow any body is going to say "Here this is the new braille code if you can learn it great if not to bad!) If braille changes again it will be slowly and you will be able to learn what you need to know when you need to know it!
Have confidence in yourself!
(SMILE!)
Now since it sounds like you have grade one and grade two and computer braille down good would you like to learn the math code?
I can send you a very easy reference you can read and practice with off list!
The math code is not difficult if you know your braille alphabet!
Now don't worry!
And let me know if you want the math code!
Also a website you might want to visit is:
www.nbp.org
That is The NATIONAL Braille Press website!
I will go for now!
Please write soon!
Have a good day!
("SO FAITH, HOPE, LOVE REMAIN, THESE THREE; BUT THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE!")
From Your FRIEND, In OUR LORD And SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, And OUR BLESSED VIRGIN MOTHER MARY,
Kristen

Hello all you Braille experts out there! I have been legally
blind my whole life but started losing more vision back in 2002.
so I decided to learn Braille. I learned grade 1 very quickly and
actually learned grade 2 pretty quickly as well except that I
have still never been able to get my reading speed up to where it
should be. Anyway, since I got my BN, I have learned more about
computer braille and the like but I have never learned the Nemath
code or really gotten very proficient at all the writing rules.
I read all these posts where you are all talking about all these
diferent braille codes and changes or possible changes in the
braille system and I just get a bit queasy. How can someone like
me who learned braille later in life and who is not an expert by
any means keep up with all the latest news in the world of
Braille? Is there an organization or a newsletter or website
where this kind of information is distributed and explained? I
know all this sounds silly to those of you who are so proficient
at Braille but I'm doing good just to read the Reader's Digest or
my e-mail in Braille. (grin) I really admire those of you who
have mastered all these codes.

Sincerely,
Nikki B
