Hi, Jonathan. Is that 13 hours of talk down time an average? I only get around ten and a half to ten and three quarters hours of talk down time. I don't usually leave my unit idle for very long, certainly not more than a minute if even that. I probably use it half an hour to one hour per day and some days, I don't even switch it on.
Yet, I still will charge it every seven or eight days.

When we estimate battery life, it's done based on an average of typical
usage patterns. For example, we're mindful that people will generally
leave the unit on but idle for some of the time, only use the Braille
display sometime, etc.

Batteries generally are expected to be at their best on average for about
18 months. In general, I'm advised that we get around 13 hours of
continuous speech in talk-down mode on a BrailleNote, a VoiceNote is about
3 hours more. Now if you have peripherals connected to the unit, such as a
compact flash card or even more significantly a Microdrive, that figure
will go down.
