Hi Lisa,
You're right; the Status option isn't availy while Exercising the Braille 
Display.  Also, I have no idea exactly how long it takes before the battery is 
discharged, but as the BN has a battery life of over 20 hours, I imagine it 
takes quite a while.  It doesn't tell you the percentage of discharge, as you 
pointed out, and I have found no mention in the User Guide as to how long 
battery drainage should take.  However, as I said earlier, I imagine it takes 
over 20 hours.  What I do to re-calibrate my gauge is, when I find out my gauge 
is inaccurate, I let my BN battery go so flat that the unit shuts itself off, 
and then I charge it until 100 percent, which brings my gauge back to accurate.
