Hi Peter. What a real bummer! You say: I have tried to reset the machine, and although it gives the usual reset sounds, there is no braille display or speech coming up. Does that mean that you have tried all 3 resets (see "troubleshooting the braille note" in the appendix (appendix i on the BN) for a clumsy description of the three resets). Actually, you do better if you look up "reset topics" in the index.
The first reset is simply pressing the reset button. I assume you've done this. The second reset is performed by holding down dots 1-2-3 and pressing the reset button. I suspect your problems are beyond the capabilities of this reset, but try it first. The third reset is performed by holding down dots 4-5-6 and pressing the reset button. Be warned that this will clear everything off the keysoft system disk. Therefore, if you have any files stored on this disk (which is a definite no-no) they will all be lost. You will also have to reset many of your system settings such as date and time. It's kind of like your BN is as it was when you first got it. If this does not help, then I fear that your next step is a call to PDI's tech support. But, fear not, those guys are pretty good, and have gotten a lot of us through some really nasty problems. I'll search my archived emails and see if I can come up with something. I seem to remember that Laura Wouk had a similar problem to yours late last year. Hope this helps a little.
