Gotta agree with Allen here. The on/off switch is a switch. The timer is a
switch. As long as either switch is rated for the current it's handling, a
switch is a switch. When a switch closes, it provides full current, all at
once. When it opens, it breaks current, all at once. Ask the dealer to
explain to you how the instantaneous current provided by a timer is any
different and more "shocking" than the instantaneous current provided by a
rocker switch.

The dealers are discouraging it because not everyone understands how to read
the fine print on a timer, to ensure the timer can handle the current needs of
the machine--it is out of the control of the dealer unless they sell a specific
timer with their machine.

I have used the Intermatic TN311 for about 3 1/2 years, two on/off cycles
daily, with no issues at all. It is rated at 15A, 1750W, just for reference.
