People do this all the time so it can't be to bad. I'd try warming the valve up in a pot of warm soapy water to help soften the rubber and make it slippery. or just work in some oil with an orange stick till they get free. The only thing you really need to worry about is not scratching anything, when you're done soap and water will get it clean before you install the new gaskets. I have read instructions on how to do this, I'd search HB and see if you can find something.
