I have had this problem in the past when I forgot to fill the water tank and ran the pump dry for a few seconds. What has worked for me is to get the machine up to operating temperature and turn on the steam wand for maybe three or four minutes until you hear the pump turn on several times. After this happens, shut off the steam wand and lift the brew lever. Hopefully the pump will draw the water for you. I have no idea why this seems to fix the issue but I've done it four or five times with a 100% success rate. Hopefully it helps you out too. Good luck. Mike p.s. I have the BIII-VP
