I always use the naked portafilter. I like the way the espresso looks. Also, I have a Mazzer Mini grinder. Push the handle and it throws the grinds to the left instead of straight down. It is messy using the standard portafilter. I can move the naked portafilter slightly to the left to compensate for the messy Mazzer.
