Yes, this is normal. You will get less water when brewing. At first the when you raise the lever and the water comes out it is coming from the air remover that is located just after the pump. After the pressure builds up the air removed closes and then the OPV valve will start to bypass water to control the brew pressure. So when you are brewing you will get about an 1.25 oz give or take a little from the chrome tube. Hope this helps. Todd Salzman Whole Latte Love
