+1 on Herman's remark. I have a product called "Keg Lube" which I use for
homebrew kegs; it's food grade and available through homebrew vendors. But,
any lube you put on these seals is mainly to get them in place the first
time--it definitely wears off pretty quickly. Most noticeably on the lever arm
seals--but I do consider taking it apart just to re-lube. The original brew
lever seals used to get oily and smooth with use, then squeaky with
backflushing. When I replaced them, they were smooth with silicon for a while,
and then got squeaky. For whatever reason, they don't get "re-oiled" between
cleanings with coffee oil anymore? The 007 seats just fine with no lube, in
any case.

Interesting that you got an error message--I've never had that show up when my
vacuum breaker seal failed. And I did also go through a couple of black
o-rings that lasted maybe a month each--I wasn't counting those since the
problem was clearly the part and not the machine. Well, okay, the real problem
was the user who was too lazy to find the right o-ring, i.e. me! :)

I would echo your sentiments about the investment. I also have a B2, I want to
say I bought it in 2007 but not totally sure. I did upgrade it to rotary and
PID somewhere along the way, and had switched out an OPV and vibe pump prior to
that--but overall it has been a solid workhorse and I still look forward to it
every day. My hot water wand stopped working a while back (I never use it)
because I believe the pipe on the bottom is scaled in. I do need to rectify
that so I can flush that boiler regularly again.

Anyway, I've also always enjoyed this forum and the nice people here. Kind of
uncommon these days!

Best,
bmc
