I love it.  Did you ever read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?  This 
reminds me so much of when he's shimming his handlebars with aluminum from a 
beer can, and his riding companion won't do it because it's not a BMW part, 
even though it's obviously the very perfect solution.  Good on ya!  I may tear 
into my old failed Jaeger to see if I can find a way to repair my 30-day-old 
failed Jaeger that they won't replace...
