Hey all,
Hope you’re all well and having a great holiday season!

I’m considering replacing my old Brewtus 2, and pretty much everything is on
the table. I visited Synesso last week (wow, awesome people and facility,
amazing machine technology, totally open culture), spoke via email with Slayer
(nice machine, but totally different culture—very restrictive, want a liability
waiver to build wood parts, won’t deal with customers directly, etc.), and have
been perusing just about everything I can find online (simonelli, van der
westen, etc.).

In the end, I am not sure I can convince myself I need to be at those price
points, but who knows. I’ve always had my eye on the Alex Duetto, and it’s just
come out in a v.4 with some nice changes/additions. As an added bonus, I could
keep my business with Todd and WLL, who have been nothing short of amazing over
the years of Brewtus ownership.

Anyway, I’m just sort of kicking it around and wonder what experiences you’ve
all had with the Alex, Synesso, etc. or any others that might not be on my
radar.

Things that are important to me:
—Amazing espresso (of course) and powerful steam
—Beautiful design and heavy machine that’s well-built with little/no vibration
—Somewhat manual experience if desired (i.e. push button machines are not for
me—I love the E61 but would consider something else for significant gains in
coffee quality)
—Ability to plumb in both water and drip tray
—Can do either 110 or 220

OK, all the best and talk soon.
Ben
