AFAIK it is the same idea as DVD zones: UK, Canada, Australia and New
Zealand are in one publishing zone and the USA is another. So it depends if
a US publisher wants to buy the 'rights' to publish a work in the US (and
Americanize the English) or not. British English editions are on sale in
Canada because they are distributed through the normal channels. In the US
they are gray imports.
