Considering that people on this list have been suggesting it from the very
beginning, its hard to believe that he "just" came up with it.

So, why the shift? Why the condescending arrogance that they *only* want
all voters to be counted?

And doesn't the above suggest a prior tendency for Gore to engage in
cycnical political maneuvers, suggesting that this may yet be another one
of the same?

I think it is. I'd like to understand what motivated Gore to suddenly,
nine days into this business, become "right and patriotic" if even you are
conceding that he has not been acting "right and patriotic" up to this point.

Behind closed doors.

Care to name the last major conflict that was resolved through a unilateral
press Conference timed to interrupt the evening news?

By your standards, I expect to see Barak and Arafat pre-empting Brokaw,
Rather, and Jennings in the same manner any day now.

He'll handle the pressure, allright. The question is, would a
"compromise" get more fertile reception from Bush in a private phone call
or in the manner in which Gore delivered it. You are positively
delusional if you think the latter.

As the subject of this message implies, this had everything to do with PR
points and nothing at all to do with reaching a compromise.
