I have a multi-standard VCR which plays anything anywhere (NTSC or either
PAL tapes, NTSC or PAL output...) which cost the wallet-breaking sum of...
100.

My dad has a Sony DVD player which outputs into the telly through the SCART,
and it plays any DVD you stick in it (I have a totally random mix of NTSC
and PAL DVDs). Cost: 315. There's cheaper ones out there these days too.

The only problem lies when you try to take a signal through the RF cable
(the standard aerial), at which point all goes impossible.
