Begin Galactic Library Report:
There are no new shocking events this year, the biggest change is that
Austria/Tytlal is now openly at war with Turkey/Tandu.
We now have:
England/Earthclan: 6 centers, a gain of one.
Germany/Gubru: 4 centers, no net change.
France/Jophur: 4 centers, no net change.
Italy/Thennanin: 5 centers, no net change.
Austria/Tytlal: 6 centers, no net change.
Russia/Soro: 5 centers, no net change.
Turkey/Tandu: 4 centers, a loss of one.
An interesting shift of centers down the chain...England gaining one
and Turkey losing one. This Librarian never believed in the Domino
Theory until now...
A power by power analysis:
England/Earthclan is consolidating their position in France. But their
strength there is very precarious. England's fleet in Picardy is
useless for attacking Paris or supporting Burgundy. France/Jophur can
cut any support of an attack on Paris. But how can France throw
England off the continent? It seems hopeless. England seems able to
hold onto Norway, but how can they press their attacks on Russia?
England seems stalemated, in a good position but without the strength
to press forward. But Italy/Thennanin seems to have an understanding
with England, supporting them into Burgundy. An Italian attack into
the south of France could be the end for the wily Jophur.
France is in a very poor position. She seems to be able to hold what
she has, but how can she expand against Italy and England? And
Germany/Gubru seems to be looking the other way, distracted by their
own problems. France appears to be isolated, with all the Western
powers dividing her up. But France's forces are tightly packed, in a
good defensive position. Never count the Jophur out until you've
dusted the last ring with powdered sugar and stuck it out with the
other day-olds...
Germany seemed in a very poor position last year. They still have the
humiliation of an Italian/Thennanin army occupying Munich. But at
least now they don't have all five neighbors nosing around for some
scraps. All the powers seem to be leaving Germany alone this year, a
surprising development in this Librarian's opinion. Always kick em
when their down, I say. But who can understand the motivations of a
pack of fanatical killer aliens from beyond the Moon? Germany has
managed to hold onto everything, and her former conquerers are racing
off to attack other powers at top speed.
Italy/Thennanin seems to be in a good postion. Only a couple of very
strange move orders from France prevented Italy from grabbing a center
away from the Jophur. Were they crazy...or cunningly planned? The
Five Galaxies may never know. In any case, with the Tandu/Soro/Tytlal
war going full swing in the East, Italy has free reign in the western
Mediterranean, and the stolid Thennanin can plan their assault on the
French Riviera and Iberia, for the moment secure against an attack from
the rear.
Austria/Tytlal also seems to be doing well. The insane Tandu/Soro feud
has allowed the Tytlal easy pickings from the Turkish/Tandu balkan
holdings. Although they had no net gain of centers, having lost
Bulgaria and gained Rumania, they are now closing their needle-like
nippers onto the Tandu flank. With a de-facto alliance with
Russia/Soro, and an apparant truce with Italy, Austria seems in
position to grab up most of Asia Minor.
Russia/Soro might seem also to benefit from the fall of the
Turks/Tandu, but they don't have the units in place to grab for the
goodies. They must also try to hold their northern flank against the
pesky wolfling English. They must probably remain content with taking
back their rightful property and eliminating the Tandu. But this
leaves the Soro with a huge problem...a suddenly triumphant Austria.
Austria could conceivably grab all four remaining Turkish centers. And
that spells trouble for Russia, and everyone else on this miserable
war-torn planet.
The question is Turkey/Tandu. Will they try to mount the toughest
defense they can...or will they continue their fanatical jihad against
the despicable Soro? While logic might dictate putting their vendetta
on hold, it seems the chitin-encrusted Tandu are beyond reason. And an
insane Tandu hive hands the Tytlal a golden opportunity to jump head
and shoulders above the other powers. Now, a cautious Tandu can hold
out for years, with the barrier of the Hellespont. But which way will
the Tandu go? This Librarian need only point to the just-completed
adjustment phase. Rather than keeping their vital Aegean fleet, the
Tandu kept their isolated and useless Ukranian army. Well perhaps not
useless, they have a shot at taking back Sevastopol. But if the Tytlal
and Soro cooperate even slightly the Tandu are hopelessly outclassed.
Look for more vicious verminous suicidal assaults by the mindless Tandu
warriors in the future.
Well, that about wraps up this year's Galactic Library report on the
battle for the Brin-L Cluster. Look for more shocking developments,
coming to a Library Module near you.
