Well, it's another galactic cycle. We've seen the fall of the Soro.
The ressurection of the Tandu. The humbling of the Thenanin. And the
tenacity of the Jophur.
As always, the game can be reviewed at:
http://www.onesite.org/observer/request.php3?judge=USIN&gamename=brinl1
The line up:
Earthclan/England: 7 centers, no net change.
Tandu/Turkey: 7 centers, gain of 1.
Tytlal/Austria: 7 centers, gain of 1.
Gubru/Germany: 6 centers, gain of 2.
Jophur/France: 4 centers, no net change.
Italy/Thennanin: 3 centers, loss of 2.
Soro/Russia: 0 centers, loss of 2.
The mighty Soro are now extinct. Well, perhaps some samples of germ
plasm have been preserved in the Tandu laboratories, but the Soro have
vanished from the Galactic scene. The Tandu had some amazing luck last
year, and they managed to grab one center, while Earthclan helped
itself to the St. Petersburg system. The Soro passed up their one
chance to survive when they chose not to retreat to Finland, where they
could have grabbed a Scandinavian center and survived as a one-center
power. Perhaps they saw the future and chose not to live on as a
remnant.
So the Tandu at last have their revenge. But what now? The Tandu are
noticiably fleet heavy. Sure, they say they are now after the
Thennanin, and allied with the Tytlal. But how can this last? What
are all these fleets for, if not to lock up all the Mediterranean
centers? Besides, the Thennanin might be extinct soon. That leaves
the Tytlal as the only logical target. This librarian believes that
the aggressive, risk-taking nature of the Tandu won't allow them to sit
back and play the junior partner to the Tytlal. Expect border
skirmishes presently.
The Tytlal have done well for themselves too. They came out of the
Tandu/Soro war unscathed, and are starting to pick up Thenannin
provinces. Their Albanian fleet can move out to the Adriatic and
convoy armies on to the peninsula. There's no way they can break the
defenses in the north, their only hope is a naval strategy. But what
about the Tandu fleet? If the Tytlal and Tandu work together the
Thenannin are crushed. But how can the Tytlal trust the Tandu not to
stab them?
This means the Thenannin have a hope for survival, if they manage to
defend themselves for a while longer the Tytlal and Tandu must
inevitably begin squabbling. Of course, now that the Thenannin have
abandoned their adventure against the Jophur their rear is secure. The
Jophur cannot pause even for a moment in their desperate defense
against Earthclan.
Now, the Jophur/Earthclan war. Earthclan made a terrible mistake in
allowing the Jophur to retain control of Brest. They could easily have
taken the province, but for unknown reasons allowed it to slip through
their grasp. And the Jophur's retreat to the North Atlantic is a
disaster as well. The Jophur directly threaten Liverpool, and no
Earthclan units are in range to save it. Yes, the Earthclan fleets can
pull back and dig the Jophur out of Liverpool, but that means
abandoning the offensive, and a critical loss in tempo. The Jophur
probably cannot gain back any territory next year, but they have halted
the remorseless Earthclan advance. And so they survive another year.
Perhaps Earthclan should consider abandoning Liverpool and press as
hard as possible against the Jophur home centers. Either way is a
gamble, especially with the uncommitted Gubru waiting in the wings.
The Gubru are now in an enviable position. They have no apparent
enemies, and all their neighbors are busy fighting for their lives with
other powers. The Gubru can pick and chose their next move. Should
they wait? Fall on one of their neighbors? The Gubru have been fairly
passive for most of recorded history, but that was when they were weak.
Now the Gubru are restored, but the lack of history means that it will
be difficult to predict their next move. I expect next turn will
reveal the Gubru plans, since they have no units in position for a
strike against anyone.
Well, the next moves should happen soon. Stay tuned to this library
module for more action! And now a word from our sponsor.....
