This librarian was sitting at his library module, minding his own
business, when a mysterious thing happened. A message, claiming to be
from....well a party who may or may not be involved in the recent
unpleasantness in the Brin-L Cluster. However, this message was
transmitted using highly advanced "Judge" technology that this
librarian is not familiar with. So, a response must be given over
sub-space, using civilian general-issue Library Modules.

The party tried to clarify the actions of various powers in the Eastern
Sector of the Cluster. What are the intentions of the tricky
Tytlal/Noor/Austrians? Are the Thennanin/Italians involved? And what
is the nature of the frenzied hatred of the Tandu/Turks for the
Soro/Russians?

It seems clear to this Librarian that the Tytlal have a de-facto
alliance with the Soro, if only because both are attacking the Tandu.
And it also seems clear that the Tytlal have a truce with the
Thennanin, since many oportunities for either power to grab vital
centers have occured, and both powers have refrained. So, what is the
response of the Tandu? An insane hate based on the belief that all
their neighbors are allied against them.

But is this belief rational? This Librarian believes it is not. The
Soro-Tytlal alliance only began once the Tandu declared Jihad against
the Soro. It is clear to this Librarian that the Tytlal are merely
exploiting the Jihad to grab the goodies while the grabbing is good.
If the grabbing were NOT good, the Tytlal would presumably remain
cautious about trying to invade Tandu space through the Constantinople
worm-hole bottleneck. Any sane sentient can see that attacking through
the wormhole is a very difficult task. The Tandu would be safe on the
other side, if only their units were not out trying to assault the
Soro.

And while the Thennanin may have a truce with the Tytlal, this means
little, since they have kept well clear of Tandu space. In fact, the
Thennanin seem poised to crush the Jophur/French and have already given
aid to Earthclan/English forces attacking the Jophur.

So, the Tandu do not really face three determined enemies. They only
face one implacable foe--the Soro--and that seems to be caused by Tandu
irrationality in the first place. The Thennanin are busy elsewhere,
and cannot be faulted for failing to pick a fight with the Tytlal. And
the Tytlal are merely using the Jihad as an excuse. If the Jihad were
put on hold for a few cycles, the Tytlal would be repulsed and the
Jihad could be resumed from a position of strength.

Of course, now the Tytlal are smelling ichor...perhaps it is too late
for the hive. The Tytlal-Soro alliance will continue until all the
easy pickings are scooped up, and perhaps by that time the Tandu will
be destroyed. Maybe they can apply to their conquerers for client
status for 100,000 years in return for the survival of their species...
