They can be darn useful things. My mom has one. Occasionally I wish I
had one, but the inconvenient things about my sedan aren't inconvenient
enough for me to *really* want one.

Mom has the same problem I do with getting things out of trunks of cars,
only she has it worse. When you're short, it can be difficult to lift
things out. (I had to call Marvin once to get a large bag of dog food out
of my trunk when Dan was out of town, for example.) With the station
wagon, just slide things in and out of the back, and you're all set. And
it's lower than an SUV, which is a help if your legs are short enough to
make climbing in and out of an SUV or pickup truck a challenge. (My dad
had to sell his VW bus when my mom was pregnant with my sister, because
she couldn't get in and out of it any longer at some point.)

Also, I imagine it would be really nice to have a station wagon if you
were going on a camping trip with your car -- if the weather gets *really*
bad, you can sleep in it a lot more easily than some other vehicles.
(Forget trying to get any good sleep for any length of time in my car, for
one....)

Mom's on her third station wagon. The first was a Subaru that eventually
died; the second was a Toyota that she declared as good as dead (and sold
to her mechanic for a song) after about 13 years or so of driving in New
Hampshire; the one she's driving now is a Saturn, and she's fairly happy
with it. And I feel a lot better about her being on the interstate with
that one than with the Toyota. (And she's on the interstate today....)
