Look. I can understand that you are concerned about youre family's
safety, but it is immoral that that safety should come AT SOMEONE ELSE'S
EXPENSE.
SUVs are not inherently safer than passenger cars - they're just BIGGGER.
It's nothing but muscle and bullying. Inf some ways SUVS may be less safe
(for instance they are top heavy and there is the risk of rollover.) The
main reason statistically fewer people are killed in SUVS is that they are
driven by adults with good driving records and not rambunctious kids
trying to drag race - it's the drivers, not the vehicles. And even then
IMO it is important if you are driving a truck type vehicle to get used to
the handling and recognize that it does NOT handle like a passenger car!
Many SUV owners are treating them way too much like cars.
Are you saying that if somebody has kids in the backseat of their little
TOyota Echo and they get hit by an SUV and the children are killed, it's
the parents' fault for not buying an SUV? Maybe they didn't have the money
and a small car was all they could afford!
Or just maybe, they're concerned about the environment and they want those
children to inherit a less polluted/resoruce depleted world.
There ARE alternatives to SUVs if safety is your priority. Volvos are
famous for safety (many people won't put their kids in anything else.) or
even a mini-van which is more car like and less of a fuel pig than a
truck. If you MUST have 4x4 consider one of the cross over vehicles built
on a car chassis. You can also look up govt crash tests and shop for a
car/van whatever by crash worthiness. Ford Tauruses are pretty good - Ford
makes safety a selling point and theiry're a year ahread of the govt
standard. But please, one person does not have more "right" to safety than
another. Please *don't* go around insisting that you need ar army tank to
protect your children. Life is hazardous, okay?
