Border of Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, CA, (as of last night) the Valero
station (used to be Exxon) was $1.979 and the CHevron across the street
$1.999. In Foster City, where I work, it is now in the $2.10 range.

Yes, I know this is still cheap gas compared to Europe. Much of that is
due to taxation though. Hmm, human nature - path of least resistance - big
inefficient cars, or smaller ones with more powerful engines because
people like to go fast. Probably the only way to really get people to
drive small/efficient is to manipulate the market by taxing fuel heavily
as Europe has done. Of course, the roads are narrow and many US vehicles
literally wouldn't fit there. but the euro market tends to go for smaller
engines and manual transmissions too. (also diesel which in some countries
is way cheaper than gasoline.)
