When it comes to power gnereration there is no absolute safety. Renewable 
energy sources may not devestate the environment but if they generate 
electricity there will be large amounts of energy around and there will 
always be the chance of mechanical failure and accidents that release that 
energy.  This is unavoidable. So the issue is not presence of risk it is 
extent of risk. My own fears about nuclear power have more to do with human 
error and political short sitedness that I think make accidents more likely 
than necessary but these risks may be acceptable in the end.
