True, but even the IOC considers the LA games an enormous success.
The reason for this is that LA was actually the only city that bid for the
1984 games, after the disasters of Munich and Montreal, and won them by
default. The success from that games, however, set off the modern era of
bid competition.

I actually watched the Brazil-Mexico match in a restaurant named "Brazil
2000" in Aguascalientes. There were an awful lot of long faces......
