One of my firends colorfully called them the "Scumbag Six" (now 5.)

They were, Jeffords, Snowe, Collins, Chaffee, Specter, and one more whom
I'm too tired to think about right now. He's currently debating whether
or not to replace Jeffords with McCain.

Given that you live in Texas, I'm not surprised that you don't meet
Rockefeller Republicans on a daily basis. They're very much alive and
kicking in the Northeast though, and still very much control the Republican
parties - from Maine to Maryland. In fact, I think that just about *all*
the Republicans in my parents' home district of Montgomery County Maryland
are pretty much Rockefeller-esque. There's so little difference between
them and the Democrats these days that our Congressional Seat changed hands
three times during the 1990's and nobody much noticed.
