The Star destroyer DOES have shields, and they seem to stop most of
the lasers that hit them. True that they don't have any photon
torpedoes, but there's a few things to consider: (1)How powerful are
the
StarWars lasers compared to Federation Phasers, and (2) The Star
Destroyer
has hundreds of fighter craft, each with their own "ion cannons" that
could easily gang up on the Enterprise. Even though the Enterprise
could
probably fly circles around the Star Destroyer, it still drives like a
cow
when compared to fightercraft.
