I realize it is not what you want to hear right now. OTOH, I do not think
that your continuous ranting about getting revenge and striking back with
nuclear weapons is something anyone really wants to hear right now either.

You have a difficult time ahead of you, Gautam. By the time the
investigation reaches the point where the question "why?" is asked, the
behaviour of the US will be examined in great detail. There will be
questions (and answers) you may not want or like to hear. Get used to it.

I'm sure that you _think_ that you can supply answers that we will not like
- but they're not answers. Because they are not truth. You don't seem to
have a problem with abandoning Israel. But - and I know that I speak for
most Americans in this - we do. We will not abandon the only democracy in
the Middle East. You may not like that fact. As you said, get used to it.
The United States of America will always stand behind the Jewish people in
their struggle for survival.

Here is what is not going to happen. We're not going to abandon Israel to
its enemies. We're not going to retreat from the world. We are not going
to acknowledge that all of the enemies of freedom and democracy around the
world who are celebrating today are right. We are not going to say that we
deserved to have this happen to us. We will not agree to the vile lie that
the grievances of our enemies justified what happened today. We will not
do Bin Laden's work for him, as you would have us do. We will not appease
terrorists. We will not make peace with the devil. We will not surrender.

Here is what _is_ going to happen. We will survive. We will rebuild the
World Trade Center. We will stand by our friends - like Israel. We will
hunt down Bin Laden and his allies and make them feel the strength of our
justice. We will do so through the courts if possible, with special forces
and the CIA if that is not possible, and with the full might of the
American armed forces if necessary. We will spare innocents when we can,
but we will not allow our enemies to hide behind innocents in the hope of
protecting themselves from our just retribution. We will do everything
possible to make sure that nothing like this ever happens again - to us or
to our allies. And that includes Israel, however unhappy you may be about
that. We will heal the wounded, mourn the dead, cherish the living, and go
on to brighter and better things than anyone could possibly imagine.

Gautam
