I think we're all tempted to use language like this right now -- God knows I
am. Let's not. We're all in pain now, and it is only human to say and do
angry things when we're in pain.

At our church on Tuesday, we closed our noon prayer service with a song
whose title seems totally appropriate right now: "Let There Be Peace in the
World and Let it Begin with Me."

Some more quotes offered as anti-flames:

"Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue, a state of mind, a
disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice." -- Benedict Spinoza.

"If you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to
your enemies." -- Moshe Dayan.

"If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your
enemy. Then he becomes your partner." -- Nelson Mandela.

"All people are a single nation." -- The Koran.
