So, there's no hope? How do other industrialized democratic countries
protect themselves?

According to the Today Show, (NBC) this morning, three Northwest Airlines
employees got into a lot of trouble. Two employees walked right through
security. One was carrying a pen-knife and the other had a corkscrew. A
pilot was cleared without any identification. (He wore a uniform.)
Northwest Airlines flights were grounded nationwide, and the employees are in
HUGE trouble. The airline issued a statement that they felt it "prudent" to
ground their flights.
