I think it's *obvious* for the *external* readers that humanity was
self-uplifted. The fun of the series, however, is seeing how all
races and characters seem to dismiss this as absurd and keep trying
to find man's patron.

There *is* another short story, it's _Temptation_, found in the book 
_Far Horizons_. It's about the dolphins that were left on Jijo.

And there are stories that can be told, notice that after Gal4 was
separated there are really *three* different "Uplift Universes" where
interesting stories may be written.
