Well, the first step is to understand what we are dealing with.  Articles
like this are an attempt to do that.  That understanding implies that some
tactics - appeasement - will not work, while others - resolve - might.  From
there, we can perhaps move on to specifics.  But first we have to know.  If
you ask "why they hate us", I have an answer for that question.  But it's
not one that people who ask that question usually like.  It suggests that
changes in policies (most of which shouldn't be changed anyways, but let's
ignore that for the moment) won't help.  This isn't about poverty, it's not
about imperialism, it's not about colonialism, it's not about anything like
that.  It's about hatred and evil and the worst parts of human nature, parts
that cannot be satiated, only defeated.  _Knowing that_ we can move on.  But
first we have to accept that fact.
