Me: Erik, if you know how to develop Pakistan, there's a fairly prestigious award handed out in Sweden waiting for you. Good luck. Giving money to bad governments tends to strengthen the bad government. I don't want to do that.
Me again: This came off stronger than I meant it - it was an echo of an old discussion I've been having with someone else for a long time. My point remains, though - we _don't know how_ to develop these countries, and what little we _do_ know (liberalize the economy and establish a free political system) the governments _won't do_ - so how can our money help?
