We're having CAT-5e outlets in 3 rooms downstairs and every room
(excepting bathrooms) upstairs in the house we're building. (The other
end of each line is in a closet off the breakfast nook, so we can easily
control what's connected to what; we'll be putting hubs and any servers
and anything else like that in there, as well.) But just putting the
conduit in the walls so that in the future, whatever is wanted can be
added then, would be a good idea. (And it would also be the
recommendation of a friend of mine who's thinking about hiring himself
out to install extra outlets for cable, phone and network for anyone
wanting to hire him to do that.)

p.s. anyone wanting more specifics on what I or my husband knows about
house networks, just ask, and I'll try to get back to you with answers
sometime Monday (mother-in-law is visiting, father- and brother-in-law
due in this evening; a full day of work tomorrow is planned, and
catching-up time on Sunday, plus Dan has a work deadline that he might
have to work tomorrow morning to meet, so we're a little swamped right
now...).
