Why should you read good histories on the subject? Well, to better
understand what happened. Gautam has quoted histories that he has read; and
quoted a noted European historian as a primary source. You have given no
basis for your understanding.

In general, I have found that the person who has made some effort to educate
herself/himself on a topic and who has demonstrated a willingness to be
converted to a different way of thinking is more likely to have an accurate
understanding of a topic. (As an aside, it doesn't have to be a Harvard
education, it can be a willingness to just dig in the library to ferret out
a topic.)

Its your time, but I think time educating yourself will help you in the long
run a lot more than time spent amassing a list of every time someone on
Brin-L has hurt your feelings. As an example of this process, I'm delaying
my response to Trent and Marvin on PoMo, because their posts have started a
delightful trail of investigation into what people call PoMo. I think I can
see three separate levels now, and am very much enjoying improving my
understanding. When I'm done, my opinion will have been changed for the
better. I am grateful to Trent and Marvin for providing the basis for this
investigation and hope to be able to finally write good responses after I do
a bit more thinking and looking.
