Here is a subset of the rules I think Mark is breaking: We sign our messages with our name and e-mail address. We keep subject lines appropriate to the contents of the message. We DO include a few lines if our reply can't stand on its own. (he fails on this for the most part) We DO keep attributions correctly assigned to the original poster. We do NOT send terse, one line replies. If our reply is more appropriately directed only at the original poster, we don't send it to the entire list. If our message is funny, frivolous, humourous, or is generally silly in nature, we add a "Silly/Humor" flag to the subject line so others can identify it easily. While we are all guilty of bending and stretching the etiquette rules, I find Mark to consistently follow the same pattern of cross-posting irrevelant messages to our group. Call it trolling, call it the acts of a crazed typist. The label does not matter. While I fully support Mark where he replies to a message orginating on Brin-l, I strongly feel that his cross-posting messages to be annoying and disruptive. A Killfile only supports this behavior, unless everyone does it, which in that case, you might as well remove him from the list. Killfiles also kill posts that Mark makes that are well within the bounds of what I consider acceptable. It seems to me that somehow banning Mark is the wrong thing to do. Jeroen and others have repeatedly asked Mark to stop the irrevelant cross-posting. Frankly that is all we can really do, because Mark rides the line between acceptable and unacceptable behavior. The Etiqette rules do not apply if there is not cultural support from the group. Some find his actions bearable and worth consideration, some don't. Welcome to Brin-l. I said 'Good Day, Sir'. I am going to remove my killfile, on the hope and promise that Mark can post responsibility. I take what I send to the list both very personal and of high importance. I am judged by what I write. I expect that at the very least, some respect is made to this wonderful list. Everyone is evangelizing tolerance and IAAMOAC. I expect that with rememberance of IAAMOAC, that it is understood the responsibility that goes with that statement.
