Actually, since it wasn't announced, how was anyone supposed to know
that you were testing new list software? But that is mostly a side
issue, since I don't object to TESTING SOFTWARE in secret.

It was "some big secret". Apparently it was so secret that some of the
people on the secret list didn't even know it was exclusive.

I would have preferred that you make an announcement that you were
testing new list software with some of your friends, but that all
discussions not related to basic testing and bug fixing be directed
towards the main list.  I also would have preferred you mention to the
people you invited that not everyone was invited, so they would know not
to discuss things that should involve the whole list. Surely you realize
how badly you handled this situation, and don't really want to imply
that I made a mistake by pointing it out?
