Janelle was the first female "alpha-mail" on the list and was the third listowner with Hector and Julia and later with Nick and Julia. Janelle was bright and had a way with words. She could talk to anyone and could talk the birds down from the trees. Heck, she was practically best Listfriends with Jeroen and Sonja and had a great deal to do with organizing the tremendously successful Brin-L Eurobash attended by 87 European Brinellers and 26 American Brinellers during the summer of 2005 in Paris. Of course the American get togethers were even bigger, especially after Docs run on the bestseller lists during the late 20 oughts and early 20 teens. 6 or 7 movies based on books by Killer Bs (depending on how you counted) made the list a popular hangout, especially with so many popular writers posting to the list a good bit of the time. Around 2012 Brin-L maxed out with ~300 active posters and ~1700 lurkers. Nick, Julia, and Janelle really had their hands full just keeping the server up. I could describe all the wonderful qualities possessed by Janelle and tell entertaining anecdotes about her and why we all loved he so, but that isn't what you want to know. You want to know why you don't remember her and why I do. The problem is....well .... there's complications. Its kinda difficult to explain much less understand. Sometimes some of you do remember Janelle Dorfman for a while. For a bit you will remember Janelle and sometimes one of you will remember her daughter, even though Teddy Dorfman Blake is years into our future. A future that will not exist, but certainly seems to want to exist. Its frustrating that I am the only one who remembers for more than a day or two. Even the posts disappear when you forget, and no one remembers writing the posts. For me its like nostalgia for events that will never happen. Events grimy with a temporal patina. Me, I'm dirty with time, filthy with memory, dusty with been there done that. Nothing was Janelles fault. Janelle was just a good person. Maybe too good. And she raised her daughter to be even better. I've always figured it that way. She was just too good of a parent. She raised her child too well. She raised Teddy to be of such strong and good character that emergent forces of what for me can only be evil (or perhaps more exactly... greed), sought to creep past entropy, skulk around causality, and inoculate themselves against thermodynamics to unmake President Teddy Blake and all the forces that made her what she was, especially the two main forces behind the evolution of such a paramount icon, her mother Janelle and, (dare I say it?) Brin-L. Oh? What's that you say? Brin-L doesn't look destroyed to you? I tell you it is, or at least what it will be is. You can see it already. 25 or 30 regulars when there should be 80. Where's Chamberlain? The guy who wrote us a short story a week like forever. (IIRC Doc gives him advice that helps him get published, but he never quits his day job) Or Bill Jones AKA Spooker, founding member of the gang of seven who's practical jokes and humor inspired Brin to write the Tymbrini satires. LOL I always figured Marvin would end up married to Bill, they were such pals and partners in crime. Do any of you remember last years get together with Da Brin in San Diego? You all talked about it for weeks..... or at least you did over *then*. Do you recall Gord and me getting into such a heated argument 2 weeks ago that we won't speak to each other for the next month? Why didn't Gord come back last winter? Where is Lester Wright? Mackenzie Chalas? Morgan?(never could remember his real name, he was the only person who could out statistic Dan) Where are they? Well........I'm pretty sure they are out there, living their lives somewhere, just not here. Except Janelle, she doesn't exist anymore. Somehow she was unborn or de-borned or de-conceived or whatever. Basically she never existed anymore. Therefore Teddy never existed either. I guess the *bastards* figured Janelle might have a different kid who would be just as good as Teddy and might do the same things. So they took Janelle from us, and left us with this weak sister reality that is a flat shadow of what was over *then*. Or at least what will be over *then*. They took from us a president who let us take 3 nukes on American soil without retaliating in kind, instead taking a longer harder path to peace with conventional warfare, but winning the respect of the rest of the world and placing America in a stronger position of world leadership than ever before. Sort of like the Pax Americana Doc always talked about before he passed. I miss Janelle, but then I miss Brin-L (the other one), and I miss the others of you too. The best of us was reversed and diminished compared to *then*. We are almost who we were, but not quite. xponent Quantum Fictions Maru rob (sort of) _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
