I've always wanted to try something by Bujold ever since she was
recommended to me by the Library of Alexandria website. But there
are *so* many of them and they all seem inter-related. I can't tell
what order to read them in or even what book to start with!

Miles Vorkosigan is a great character and he has grown as the series has.
The list below is from his "Universe and Times" chronolgy at the back of the
latest in that series, "Diplomatic Immunity."

Falling Free Not a Miles story, but these events are
discussed in later books. (Winner 1988 Nebula)
Shards of Honor Miles' parents meet
Barrayar Miles is born (Winner 1992 Hugo,
Locus Poll)
The Warrior's Apprentice Miles starts his secret career.
The Vor Game Miles as an Ensign (Winner 1991 Hugo)
Cetaganda Miles is an envoy to a state funeral of a
potential enemy
Ethan of Athos Miles sends one of his top commaners on a
secret mission
Brothers in Arms Miles discovers enemies have cloned him
Mirror Dance Miles meets his brother again (Winner
1995 Hugo, Locus Poll)
Memory "Miles hits thirty; thirty hits back."
(My favorite in the series)
Komarr Miles solves a mystery.
A Civil Campaign A hiliarious courtship.
Diplomatic Immunity Another mystery

This list in NOT in the order published, but in Miles chronology.

You should also read the collection of short stories "Borders of Infinity."

This is a good series and recommended.
