The Commonwealths of Massachusetts, Virginia, and Pennsylvania were all
part of the Original 13. The Commonwealth of Kentucky was legally
formed by a secession from the Commonwealth of Virginia, which as noted
above, was one of the Original 13. As you may recall, much of the land
west of the Appalachians was legally claimed by the Original 13, which
eventually had to be sorted out.
