Hey everyone,

I dont normally jump in on these 'discussions' but here I go.

I coach Juniors. The first gap I have to bridge is yes Ultimate is a
sport. The next gap is that ultimate is not played by a bunch of people
with their heads up their backsides who only care about the sport they
play (like for instance the average footballer - for the record I also
play football!) In fact I encourage all my players to go and support all
the other teams in the college when they are playing.
I thought ultimate was meant to be based on spirit, and that means spirit
in sport not just behind closed doors in our own little world! Constantly
my players are jibed (nice word!!) about the sport they have chosen to
play but instead of give as good as they get I try to encourage them to
show the other sports people that there is another way (now this is
sounding a little cheesey but I hope you get my meaning).
No I dont think that a football tournament would hault to watch a Ultimate
match but that is my point!
We hosted the Outdoor Junior Nationals last year. It was a huge success (I
guess you would need to check with others that attended to see if that
statement is in fact true!) And guess what, we scheduled in a football
match, even played it on a massive cinema size screen! Not everyone wanted
to watch it but most did. Having this break didnt effect the tournament
and I think that everyone was happy with it happening.
The long and short of it is that I agree with Berry7. The choice should be
there.

Lets not be like the narrow minded people out there in the rest of the
sport, lets stand up and be different. Lets not be isolated and have this
situation where everyone is saying "my sport is the best, yours is
rubbish" (anyone picturing a primary school playground??)

Anyways just my thoughts
