This is meant to be an antiestablishment sport? Is it? So does that mean
we shouldn't be teaching school kids the sport (as someone in our team
does) because this will make it less anti-establishment?

And why does that mean that if you play frisbee you shouldn't appreciate
other sports for the same reasons? I have found that spending a lot of
time helping to grow our team over the past few years has increased my
appreciation of other teams sports, the hard work and training they put
in and the ethos as playing as a team. But apparently this just makes me
an idiot.

Surely this is the kind of cliquey attitude that holds ultimate back and
repels players of main-stream sports from playing the game, and
ultimately holds back the growth of the sport. By watching / playing
other sports we can learn lots about our own sport, and the FA cup final
represents the two best teams in the country (at any sport presumably,
based on the ratio of players playing in the final compared to total
players that play the game). Having said all that, I'm not too fussed
whether we end up watching the game or playing our final game, but I'm
just making the point that we shouldn't automatically have to hate the
most popular sport in the country because we have chosen to play an
"anti-establishment" one.

Anyway as Dan said the Friday night forest div 1 play-off is where all
the action is...

Tom

Subject: [BD] Schedules

While we're on the subject of schedules. Does anyone want to speak up
in favour of the MT2 schedule?

Why on earth do we have a 75 min break in the schedule for "Lunch"? Is
something being laid on? Is it because it was written by someone's
mother and they are worried we wont eat properly?

Here's my guess. It was written under the pressure of the "it must be
fair" brigade. These idiots are obsessed with the concept of fairness
to all teams at tournaments. They want every team to play the exact
number of games, have equal chance to win the tournament, have every
team play on the same fields as each other, pay the same amount per
point played, eat lunch at the same time, have same rostor rules etc.
etc.

This brigade are idiots and they are slowly ruining our sport.

Having schedules where everyone plays at the same time means that there
are large swathes of the tournament where there is NOTHING happening.
There are no games to go and watch, you can't heckle anyone, you cant
get better by watching ultimate. It also means that if the sport were
ever to get publicity and people would come to watch they would find
nothing happening for long periods, get bored and disappear.

And ffs I thought we had dumped this ridiculous idea of having a break
for a fricking football match. How many people honestly care about the
FA cup final? I can think of only one, and he probably wont have wifi
so its no use to him. "OOh but its Man U v Chelsea, ooh its at the
neeeew Wembley, oooh but..." STOP. You have been taken in by the
phoney hype designed to make you part with your money for something
utterly irrelevant. As a sport we should be doing a service to idiots
like you and showing you some tough love. Cold turkey chaps, its the
best thing for you. If football is so important then go watch it and
your teammates will win your match for you, lets face it you're probably

the type of player who disappears with a winjury every few minutes
anyway. Your mates will understand.

Ok, lets imagine that a large percentage of the tournament do care about

this pointless event. What is going to happen? They're going to have
to go and warm up during the game and miss a the end anyway! Lets go
wild and imagine for a second that its an exciting game. If so then
people will miss the exciting part, the extra time and the inevitable
penalties.

Ridiculous. I'm making an offer now to High Altitude, lets say sod the
football, play early and all go and have a beer while the chumps play
off in the twilight getting cramp and grumbling about how it really
wasn't a penalty, corner, streaker etc... I have no idea how many on my

team will agree to it but at least we'll find out how many idiots I play

with.

Or an offer to everyone in the tournament - Lets rebel. Come on folks,
this is supposed to be an antiestablishment sport. NOTHING is more
establishment than the FA freaking cup final. Lets have round 3 from
12.30 -1.45 and round 4 from 2.15 - 3.30. Then you'll only miss the
first half, and we can all have a beer and watch the thrill/sideshow of
penalities together like the one happy proletariat we are. Whats the
problem with that?

In the olden days, schedules were written to make the most of pitch
time, provide entertainment for teams and spectators and to provide
logical and practical scheduling for teams. I think we should have
staggered game slots, semi finals played at different times (cos they
are the best games of the tournament) and a general agreement that if
you get screwed by the seedings/schedule then you are allowed a good
whine on Britdisc. I agree that is at least your right.

Dave.

PS. I made a promise not to be grumpy this weekend but I fear I may
have already lost that particular battle.
