There was indeed substantial interest and sufficient mentors, so a GCI
application was submitted. Thank you for the overwhelming response! More
details on mentoring later.

To set expectations, I will not be surprised if we don't get selected this
year. It’s our turn for veteran rotation, i.e., to not get selected because
we’ve participated several years in a row (same goes for GSoC). However, we
have preparation work regardless. We need any and all hands urgently; time
sensitive.

A few things to get in place before the end of November:

1) Convert main website to WordPress and new theme.
2) Review and apply/reject all pending patches.
3) Define more GCI tasks. More on this later.

Multiple people have been working the website from different angles. Jacob,
can it be brought to completion this month? Even minimal works for me. It’s
more important that the new site display info about BRL-CAD (main features and
wiki data), not so much our existing News blog that hasn’t been updated in a
year. Hitesh, how’s your documentation module coming along? Who has the time
and experience to see this through within the next two weeks?

Reviewing patches is probably the most work but the most needed. Plus, ANYONE
can help. Review any pending patch (that you didn’t author and that doesn’t
already have a reviewer’s comment) and see if it works against trunk. Leave a
comment/feedback if it works and has no issues. If it’s an old patch that
doesn’t apply, update it so it applies cleanly. If there is a blatant problem,
leave feedback. Note that you don’t need commit access to do any of this, but
performing reviews can help you get commit access yourself.

I’d really like to see (via wiki or e-mail) a list of 2-hour tasks for the OGV,
Benchmark, and Materials Database projects. They also need to get set up on
brlcad.org for production use. If they are well-defined and appropriately
scoped, I’d very much like to include them in our list of GCI tasks. We also
need some cross-pollination tasks that pertain to OpenSCAD, LibreCAD, and
STEPcode. But really, the priority first are our pending patches and the
website.

Cheers!
Sean

p.s. Also want to get sources updated to space indentation and the VM image
updated, but they can't happen until most patches are applied.
