Hi Sean,

Thanks sincerely for your patience and
answer.

I’ve got that the project ‘STEP exporter’ means
‘transferring the .g objects into .stp files’ and something about converting by
reading http://brlcad.org/w/images/6/66/Converting_Geometry.pdf
. But I find there is already some coding under src/conv/step/g-step. So I
wonder for this project what has been done and what I can do in detail.

And which part is concerned to this project
in AP203? Is Boundary Representation Models or
just all of it
http://www.steptools.com/support/stdev_docs/express/ap203/recprac203v8.pdf
? Should I understand it completely now?

Thanks,

Lily

Stirk ,Thanks sincerely for your kindness and suggestions.I have read the
checklist and guidelines of BRL-CAD carefully. And I have built BRL-CAD
following this http://brlcad.org/wiki/Building_from_SVN and I have learned a
little about how to use MGED. I find STEPcode is also included in BRL-CAD.
Should I do something else to build STEPcode?
While there is an older copy of STEPcode provided with BRL-CAD, the most
current STEPcode sources are in their own repository: http://stepcode.org

I have skimmed through src/conv/step and read http://brlcad.org/wiki/STEP2G. So
for the project 'STEP exporter', can I consider transferring .g files i.e.
database of BRL-CAD to .stp files i.e. STEPfiles as the first task?
That would be a BRL-CAD project, not a STEPcode project. Transferring the .g
objects into .stp files would not just be the first task ― that is the entirety
of the project. You’d need to expand on what exactly that means in great
detail so you understand the complexity and challenges involved.
Another question : is the OpenVSP exporter you mentioned included in BRL-CAD or
included in this software http://www.openvsp.org/?
OpenVSP is not part of BRL-CAD. Charlie was itemizing examples of projects
that use STEPcode of which BRL-CAD and OpenVSP are two examples.
Cheers!Sean

Thanks,Lily
